Hello excited travelers!  Many people expect that nothing could possibly happen to them as they travel.  But, some of us have learned that life  is unpredictable.  My job is to make you aware of the things you might not think of when you travel.

Because I have seen so many unexpected things happen during my travels, I have become very “risk averse”.  I personally have seen a person have to be air lifted off a ship 1/2 way to Cabo and be returned to San Diego by medical evacuation helicopter. My 1st thought when I heard what was happening was ” I hope that person has travel insurance to cover this.” You have to have the right insurance coverage to pay for that.  I’ve seen a person step off a tour bus and break her ankle.  She had to pay for emergency transport and hospital expense and re-schedule her flights to another country to get back home to see her own doctors and pay again.  I know a man who had a stroke while on a cruise and had to stay a week in a foreign hospital in Turkey and then be flown home on a special medical transport  (both very expensive.) I’ve seen a young lady break her leg when she slipped at Dunn’s River Falls in Jamaica.  She had to charge $1,500 unexpectedly on her charge card to get medical treatment at the hospital.  A friend slipped on the marble floors at a resort in Cancun and broke her hip.  I could keep going on and on.

I am not trying to alarm you, I merely want you to be protected from unexpected problems.  I always insure myself when I travel and always advise my clients to do the same.  If a plan you have at home currently will cover all the things listed, then you don’t need anything extra.  You can even get coverage up to a day before you travel but the quote is about much more than cancelling the cruise or tour.  When I send you a quote,  please read the coverage very carefully.  The choice is up to you.  If “Las Vegas” is your style, then so be it.  Just know before you go.  I’ve done my part by informing you.  “I wish I had” doesn’t pay for anything.

What do you think your most valuable asset is? Your money? Your car? Computer? Jewelry? Not by a long shot! Most people automatically think of possessions when that question comes up. But the true reality is– it’s your time!

Your time is the one thing of value that you absolutely cannot get more of. You can earn more money, get another car, computer, jewelry, etc—but there is no additional time you can acquire in your life. Therefore it is your most valuable asset.

You can, however, use it more wisely. If you are going to allocate your precious time to any endeavor–make it quality and don’t waste it. We all have our gifts. Do what you’re good at and let some other qualified person help with the rest.

My gift happens to be planning travel. I started many years ago and I’ve gotten consistently wiser and better at it as time went by. I know how to interpret a travel offering and separate the reality from the hype. I know how to judge the lay out of a resort and pretty much tell you how your experience will be. I can look at the itinerary of a cruise or tour and and explain what’s going to happen. In other words, I turned my time of researching all these years into a talent for getting you
that picture in your mind. I actually turn travel dreams into reality in a fraction of the time it would take you to do it on your own. Unless you’ve got years of experience, which includes personal trials and errors, you still can’t be sure of what you’re researching. Do you really want to gamble your MONEY and YOUR PRECIOUS TIME on a less than quality experience?

Life is unpredictable–eat dessert first! How many time have you heard that? Well, it really is unpredictable. I never would have dreamed that I’d fall flat on my knees and face just walking to supper at the mall. How embarrassing. But the worst part was that It trashed my knees and in just a few years I was having my 1st knee replaced. I was perfectly healthy before that.

I’m still healthy. But I’ve also had a 2nd knee and one hip replaced so far. I was Medicare eligible for all surgeries. Are “LOOSE LIPS SINKING YOUR SHIP”

This a question posed by Jamie Saxe in an article on TravelResearchOnline-Smith. It caught my attention mainly because I’ve been promoting a Special 70th Anniversary WW II D-DAY Memorial Cruise sailing June  2014 and this question seemed timely.  My Father was stationed in France during WW II.  As a 4 year old child I remember him coming home on the train to Hammond, La. where we waited for him.  When he got off the train he was singing “Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day.  I’ve got a beautiful feeling, everything’s going my way!”  Funny the little things one remembers when a child.  Later, after Mom and Dad had both passed on,  I found a postcard of The Arc de Triomphe from Paris that he had written to my Mom.  It was written in Oct 1941 when I was 3 months old.  The surprising thing was the date it was stamped as mailed by postal service—Nov 1944.  Who knows where that card had been taken to before the Army sent it on home.  When I was in Paris for a River Cruise on the Seine, I had my picture taken in front of the Arc.  If those stones could only talk.
